SGH LectureⅠ-2

On May 21, 2015, Ms. Masako Kikuchi, who worked at the United Nations, gave us a lecture entitled “World Peace and Security”.

One country can’t solve the problems which threaten world peace (terrorism, development of nuclear weapons, poverty, starvation, civil war, and so on), so it is important for countries to cooperate from a neutral point of view. Under those situations, the United Nations takes on a framework of multilateral talks and deals with the problems in cooperation with various international organizations.

Ms. Kikuchi talked with enthusiasm about her job at the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) Belarus office, where she met Mrs. Sadako Ogata, previous High Commissioner, whom she respects very much. She also showed us a video of the refugees’ lives in the civil war in the Middle East.
