Aomori High School was founded in 1900 (Meiji 33) 118 years ago, and has a rich history and tradition. Our school is located in the southeast of Aomori City, facing towards Mt. Hakkoda in the south and Mutsu Bay in the north. There are more than 39,700 graduates of Aomori High School. They play important roles in politics, national and local governments, the business world, academics, and other various fields.

Under the education philosophies of “self-reliance and self-development”, “faithfulness and diligence” and “harmonious cooperation and responsibility”, we work to nurture talented people who contribute to society and who enlighten and improve themselves.

Our school emblem is the symbol of “infinity” or “mugen”, which is sung about in our school anthem. The mathematical symbol of ∞ is placed in the middle of the kanji character 高 (meaning ‘high’in high school). The design is very simple, but it has profound meaning. Following this symbolic meaning of our school emblem, through great effort and team work, all of our staff are daily supplying a topnotch education.

Our education goals are as follows:

• (1) To foster enthusiasm and positive attitudes towards learning along with an independent attitude to learn cooperatively
• (2) To understand the importance of responsibility and cooperating with one another, respecting variety and morality through experiences in a good environment
• (3) To have the outlook, ability, and attitude which are needed to become independent socially and occupationally

These goals create an environment for students and teachers to cooperate together and learn.

Aomori High School was chosen as one of the “Super Global High School (SGH)” in March 2014 by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan (MEXT). This fiscal year is the last year of the SGH program. We believe that "world citizens" who will participate vigorously in global society have been brought up through this program.

Our school was also chosen as a “Super Science High School (SSH)” for five years in March 2017 by MEXT. We are empowering students talented in science and technology who will be able to create new ideas by interdisciplinary study. Implementing the SGH/SSH program, all of our students choose research themes by themselves and search for solutions to various problems. These programs enable them to cultivate the ability required to thrive in the future. I am convinced that the SGH/SSH program contributes to the realization of the "will" of each student.

I myself graduated from Aomori High School and worked at this school as a teacher and a vice-principal. This is my fourth assignment and I have worked here for 14 years in total. I am greatly honored by this assignment, and I’ll do my best for the further development of our school while preserving our traditions. When students are happy, we laugh together with them. When students are sad, we shed tears together with them. We as teachers always try to provide splendid classes and to be trusted by students.
