SGH Lecture1-3

On May 13th, 2016, Mr. Toshiaki Mikuriya, the head of Akita International University’s career development center, gave us a lecture entitled “What is to be global?”

Based on the results of the personnel training programs that Akita International University is implementing, Mr. Mikuriya talked about the reasons why global thinking and viewpoints are needed, the meaning of understanding and experiencing different cultures, what kind of abilities are required for high school students before entering universities and so on.

In the beginning, according to the instructions of Mr. Mikuriya, our students and teachers cut pieces of paper, but they all finished different forms. It showed that how difficult it is to convey something correctly to others.

At the end of his talk, he talked about the children's story of "a rabbit and a turtle". In the story, the rabbit slept on the way and lost the running race with the turtle, so it is often told to children, “Don’t be lazy like the rabbit.” However, changing our viewpoints, the rabbit and the turtle were looking at different things. The rabbit was looking at the turtle, its rival. The turtle was looking at its own goal. It is important to foster people who can aim at their own goal.
