What is Research Learning?

On April 22nd, 2016, Mr. Naoya Okamoto and Mr. Shinnosuke Tasaka from Non-Profit Organization Glocal Academy (located in Takachiho, Miyazaki Prefecture) and Mr. Masami Nishiyama from Gokase Secondary School in Miyazaki Prefecture gave us speeches entitled “What is Research Learning?”

They sometimes asked questions to our students, and talked to us about the basic way of thinking to develop research learning. Mr. Okamoto mentioned a quote from Newton: “If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” Research learning is not writing just about what you found with the Internet and books. It is collecting data and inspecting it by yourself to understand the results of the predecessors’ study and to try to think about your original solutions for problems.
